Crime Story is a 1993 Hong Kong action film, directed by Kirk Wong and Jackie Chan, who also stars in the film. Unlike almost all of Chan's films, which feature a combination of comedy and action, Crime Story is mostly a serious film. The film is based on actual events surrounding the 1990 kidnapping of Teddy Wang.
Plot
In the movie, Inspector Eddie Chan (Jackie Chan) attempts to find a kidnapped businessman, and it takes him from Hong Kong to Taiwan in search of him. What complicates matters is that there is a mole within the police force, destined to try to stop Chan from finding the kidnapped businessman.
The movie is based on the kidnapping of Hong Kong property billionaire Wong Yat-fei or otherwise known as Teddy Wang, even though they changed his name.
In the end, the mole reveals the location of the businessman on a boat, and he is rescued. However, this is fictionalized, as in real life, Teddy Wang has never been found. Many believe that he was thrown off the boat when police closed in to his location.
